Tessellations – The Beneventi School

Head of School

Luthern Williams serves as Head of School at Tessellations, bringing thoughtful leadership and a steady hand to a time of important growth.  Since joining Tessellations in November 2024, he has helped the school clarify its strategic direction, strengthen alignment across programs, and deepen community trust. His work has included leading the redesign of Middle and High School into a unified Secondary School, spearheading the refinement of literacy instruction for gifted learners, and championing a renewed commitment to mission-driven, strategic growth. A Harvard-trained educator with a long-standing dedication to developing schools that cultivate the full potential of young people, Luthern leads with both strategic clarity and deep care—uplifting a culture where gifted learners are empowered to thrive as their full, authentic selves.

The Board chose Luthern not only for his leadership but also for the clarity, compassion, and vision he brings to this moment in our evolution. His appointment reflects our shared belief in the kind of school we are building—one that celebrates giftedness in all its complexity and cultivates a lasting culture of trust, purpose, and possibility.

In his own words, Luthern shares what drew him to Tessie, what he sees in our students, and how he envisions the road ahead.

A Letter from Luthern

Welcome to Tessellations

Cultivating curious thinkers with exceptional reasoning ability and a capacity for original thought.

Choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions a family can make. At Tessellations, we believe gifted learners deserve an education that recognizes not only their intellect but also their curiosity, imagination, and emotional depth.

Our founding vision, articulated by Anne Beneventi, continues to guide us:

“At Tessie, we believe gifted children are not defined solely by intellect, but by their full humanity – curiosity, sensitivity, complexity, and creativity.”

Gifted children often experience the world with unusual intensity. They ask big questions, notice patterns others may miss, and imagine possibilities others may not yet see. When these qualities are understood and nurtured, students flourish – not only academically but as thoughtful, ethical, and creative human beings.

Many families today feel they must choose between a rigorous education, preparation for life, and the wellbeing of their child. At Tessellations, we believe that is a false choice.

When curiosity is cultivated and students are invited to pursue ideas deeply and meaningfully, they develop the confidence, intellectual independence, and scholarly habits of mind that demanding academic environments value most. In a close-knit intellectual community where students are known and mentored by scholarly faculty, curiosity matures into scholarship.

Tessellations is a school designed for gifted students who love learning and intellectual exploration. Our classrooms are places of lively inquiry where students explore meaningful questions, connect ideas across disciplines, and develop the confidence to think independently. Rigor here is defined not by speed or competition, but by depth of thought, originality, and sustained engagement with complex ideas.

In a single day, students may discuss Homer’s Odyssey in humanities, design experiments in science, and collaborate on creative projects. At Tessellations, intellectual life and childhood curiosity belong together.

Our students achieve at high levels, but their success grows from exceptional reasoning ability, deep intellectual curiosity, and original thinking – not from constant pressure or competition. When students feel emotionally safe and supported, they are more willing to take intellectual risks, remain deeply engaged with ideas, and develop the intellectual habits of mind that sustain a lifelong love of learning.

The world our children are entering is changing rapidly. In this age of accelerating change, the capacities that matter most are not simply knowledge or speed but the ability to reason deeply and ethically, generate new ideas, collaborate across disciplines, show empathy and kindness toward others, and navigate complexity with wisdom. Education must therefore cultivate deep thinkers and whole human beings.

That is the purpose of Tessellations.

We seek students who demonstrate kind hearts, integrity, open minds, and generosity, alongside exceptional reasoning ability, intellectual curiosity, and a capacity for original thought – and families who value both intellectual rigor and the development of the whole person..

If this vision resonates with you, we invite you to learn more about the Tessellations community.

Warmly,
Luthern Williams
